Guided Vermont Hiking Vacations
A guided Vermont hiking or walking trip is a perfect adventure for people who want an active, challenging, and rewarding vacation experience while meeting others with similar interests. Our groups are small – not larger than twelve. We enjoy 6 – 9 miles of Vermont’s best trails per day, perhaps with options for longer or shorter hikes, making each day rewarding for everyone. Each trip includes a variety of scenery and terrain, ranging from secluded glacial lakes to panoramic views from more challenging mountain paths. Evenings are spent around a centerpiece dinner at a welcoming Vermont country inn with its own distinct personality. Our experienced interpretive naturalist guides add knowledge, interest, and value to your Vermont vacation.
Guided Vermont Hiking Tours for 2017
SPECIAL – COLUMBUS WEEK, OCTOBER 2017 – GUIDED VERMONT FOLIAGE TOUR
October 8 – 13, 2017
We have openings for up to four more rooms on a special guided Vermont foliage tour during is classically the peak of fall foliage in Vermont: the week of Columbus Day. Arrive Sunday afternoon, October 8, and enjoy an orientation and a gracious and relaxed Old World style dinner service, and depart Friday, October 13 following a farewell breakfast; four days with dedicated guide service (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), one optional self-guided day on departure day (Friday). One night at Mountain View Inn in Fayston, two nights at Lilac Inn in Brandon, one night at Fox Creek Inn in Chittenden, and one night at October Country Inn in Bridgewater Corners. A dedicated local resident interpretive naturalist adds interest to your tour with her knowledge of plants, wildlife, history, and culture of the area plus many years of experience seeking out and exploring the most scenic and worthwhile footpaths.
The late Charles Kuralt of CBS News has the relevant quote about foliage season in Vermont, calling it: “the unbearably beautiful American time and place. Brilliant yellow birch-covered hills slope down to glowing green meadows. Every sugar maple along every country lane combusts in scarlet and gold. The autumn sun brightens the white church steeples in the pretty valley towns. Plump pumpkins appear in orange pyramids outside the crossroads stores, and the smell of wood smoke hangs in the air. The intensity of the season so overpowers the senses that autumn cannot be remembered one year to the next, so its splendor always comes as a shock.”
A limited number of rooms with two beds are available; standard accommodation is a Queen room.
$1345 per person / $2690 per couple includes five three-course dinners; five comfortable classic country inn overnights (Queen room, private bath, non-smoking inns); five full served country breakfasts; five brown-bag hiker’s trail lunches; guide service by an experienced local resident guide for Monday through Thursday (four days); optional supported hiking on departure day (Friday); housekeeping and waitstaff gratuities; and Vermont meals and rooms tax. We are operating this tour on the “per diem” format detailed below, meaning you use your own or a rental car each day to accomplish the trailhead logistics in partnership with your guide. Click to book this trip, or call or email us if we can answer any questions for you.
For other dates in 2017, full-form open-enrollment guided trips are on hiatus. In 2017, we continue to offer guided trips for self-formed groups, as well as per-diem guide service for couples, solo travelers, and families. Please see the items below for details.
ADD A GUIDED DAY OR TWO TO A SELF-GUIDED TRIP
Many of our guests have requested a day or two (or more) with a guide as part of their longer customized self-guided vacation. We are delighted to offer per-diem guiding again this season. This represents an excellent way to experience the best of both worlds: the knowledge and connection of hiking with a local expert fit into the freedom and independence of a custom-designed self-guided vacation. This is also less costly than a traditional guided tour, as the guide will meet you after breakfast, hike with you during the day with a break for lunch together, and will get you to your next inn in time for dinner. You may request (subject to availability) a guide to match your interests: one with particular knowledge of birding, cultural/literary topics, or a general interpretive naturalist. For two people, add $75 per person per day; for groups of three or more, add $50 per person per day for dedicated service by one of our local guides. Guide service is in demand and must be booked in advance.
CUSTOM GUIDED TRIPS
If you have a group of four to sixteen interested in a guided hiking trip, we are delighted to customize a trip just for you. This gives you the ability to choose your own dates and participate in developing the itinerary. We’ll make all the arrangements for lodging, guides, and transportation between inns; you come and enjoy. Planning as much in advance as possible will help us give you exactly what you want. Please call or e-mail for more details.
**All rates quoted are per person based on double occupancy (ppdo). This is the rate one person will pay if two are sharing a room. Single accommodations are available by paying the single supplement premium charged by the inns and reflected in ppso pricing.
