Tour Vermont on Bicycle
Rolling Vermont farmland and orchard country, Vermont covered bridges sheltered in lush valleys, and majestic mountains surrounding pristine lakes make bicycle touring the ideal way to enjoy Vermont’s magnificent, unspoiled scenery and delightful small country inns. You can choose between riding the quiet back roads of Vermont’s Champlain Valley on our road bike tours, or the dirt roads and trails of the Green Mountains on our mountain bike tours. Your road biking tour includes daily luggage transfer while you cycle, detailed maps and cue sheets, a RideWithGPS app for your phone, and an in-person orientation talk at the first inn. Each day’s ride explores our well-vetted routes enjoyed by our bicyclists for safety and scenery for more than 40 years. High quality rental bikes are available, including electric-assist “e-bikes”, provided by the top-notch bike shop we have partnered with for decades.
In 2019 our guests were thrilled that we have been able to obtain a license to furnish our cyclists with a RideWithGPS app for your door to door rides, complete with turn-by-turn directions displayed on your phone and spoken aloud if desired.
Our popular fully-customized self-guided trips give you maximum independence and flexibility. There’s no one to hold you back or push you too hard in order to keep “the group” together … you set your own pace, free to stop to take in a glorious Vermont view; browse at an intriguing gallery or shop; or pedal onward to challenge yourself. We tailor your trip to your exact needs — number of days, number of inns, scenery and terrain, and daily biking mileage. Each day brings miles of country vistas interspersed with quaint Vermont villages. Each evening is filled with the charm and warm hospitality of a fine country inn, along with the unsurpassed dining that is your reward for a day in the saddle. We can’t tell you how many of our guests have said they felt like they gained weight instead of losing it on a week of bicycling inn to inn!
The cycling season runs from about the beginning of May through about the third week of October. The only 2020 dates we will not be able to book you at any inn in our network are Friday and Saturday, May 22 & 23, and Friday and Saturday, October 9 & 10. These are the local college (Middlebury College) graduation and family visit weekends, and the inns are not able to facilitate the inn to inn cycling program for those two nights.
Cycling Vermont with us is at the best pace: your own.
